Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), headquartered in Shanghai, is China's largest pure-play foundry, producing integrated circuits from mature nodes (350nm) down to 7nm-class using deep ultraviolet (DUV) multi-patterning, constrained by US export restrictions blocking extreme ultraviolet (EUV) access. It focuses on logic, RF, and power devices for domestic fabless firms such as Huawei, though serving US clients like Qualcomm has been limited by trade restrictions. SMIC is a leading foundry in China by capacity but ranks behind TSMC, Samsung, and UMC in the global foundry market.
